the Craftsman stuff doesn't really work that well, especially for something with that much torque. better off with sourcing a breaker bar setup to do the job
I've always had luck with this one:
http://www.harborfreight.com/1-2-half-inch...-bar-30395.htmlyes it's Harbor Freight but I've seen Snap-on ones give out before that one does, actually I've never seen that one give out
they also have this, use it with a cheater pipe:

^^^ ya I borrowed a snap on breaker bar from a friend at a local shop and broke off the drive. It was a $100+ breaker bar but luckily they replace them for free. haha.
Next I am going to borrow a 3/4 inch breaker bar plus buy a socket.

big sockets can be found at sears or napa.
As for taking the nut out, go to home depot and get a 5-10ft. long metal pipe and put it over your breaker bar. Works everytime.

when i worked at VW lots of times a good gun wont get those axle nuts off. i have a REALLY big 3/4" (or maybe 1"? i cant remember haha) breaker bar with an adapter that goes down to 1/2" and a stubby 32mm so its more direct. you kinda need one to torque the axles. they need to be torqued then add 180 degrees, which cant really be done with gun

yep, 1/2 inch just couldnt cut it with a breaker bar... need the 3/4 inch deep 32mm. gonna order it tonight. neither napa, sears, kragan, or harbor freight had one.

Had a funny interaction today. I was stopped at a stop light and in my rear view I see someone flip a u-turn across a double yellow. Next thing I know, a ford explorer pulls up along side me and yells out his window, "damn man, nice stance! Is that static?!" Yeah, I chuckled. He told me how he could never pull that off in canada, then flipped a u turn again at the red light and headed off in his original direction. It was pretty entertaining.
