How do you guys deal with speed bumps?
At my complex, all entrance/exits have pretty big speed bumps which is why my car isn't very low.
The only exit that isn't a speed bump is a big ass hill that I scrape on already..
Of course I could bag my car.. but I'd rather not.

Avoid at all costs. If one must encounter a speed bump, angle is your friend. Try getting one wheel over at a time. Keeping all wheels on the ground is essential so as to not get stuck on said speed bump.
Or
Rule #5
Slamburglars don't get stuck on speedbumps, speedbumps get stuck on slamburglars.
Goon360
Oct 16 2009, 10:57 PM
I'll try and get the angle right on it.
The thing that really pisses me off though is that they're not even good speed bumps.
Some parts are bigger than others and shit like that.
Basically looks like they just told the maint. dude to go make some bumps.

this is a question for shelby gibbs.
where he used to live there were these brutal speedbumps and a driveway that was horrible and his car was slammed and he would daily those and said he would barely scrape.
you have to find the sweet spot to go over them, i avoid them at all costs but years of experience have taught me how to go over with minimal scraping.
also make an intro thread please&&spanks.

Guess I just gotta practice?
haha
will make an intro..
Ivan the Terrible
Oct 16 2009, 11:11 PM
ya you have to practice a lot.
if i had better sized wheels i could go up my drive way with out scrapping one bit and its an average angled one. its all in the angle of entry and if you have an open diff it will make it harder when you three wheel.
Goon360
Oct 16 2009, 11:14 PM
I'll just take it slow.. lol
There's some other people in the complex with pretty low cars and they don't seem to have too much trouble.
If all else fails, I'll make a bridge over the speed bump with some 2x4's haha
Ivan the Terrible
Oct 16 2009, 11:21 PM
there you go!
just keep them off to the side or something

Probably wont be too big of a problem cause I'm thinking I'm going to get a 240sx and I probably wont drop it for a while cause I wanna do other shit to it first.

the first thing you do to a 240sx is drop it! then you worry about other stuff like making it look nice.
just get some used stance coils for like 600 bucks.

I was gonna get some new breaks, turbo the KA, etc.
But might as well drop it.
Shit, if I fuck up the front on a speed bump I can just get a cheap body kit or an OEM from a junkyard for like $20 haha
Ivan the Terrible
Oct 17 2009, 02:32 AM
240 front bumpers are indestructible.
slam it, convert to 5 lug then some wheels after you can focus on aero for proper execution.
Goon360
Oct 17 2009, 02:44 AM
Nah, Imma keep it 4 lug and put some Type R wheels + stickers on it for extra hp.
Then get some 20'' Racing Hart reeeeeyumz
JAY DEM fog lights too.
haha
Ivan the Terrible
Oct 17 2009, 02:45 AM
but you cant find cool sized wheels in 4 lug with out selling your kidney on the black market.
Goon360
Oct 17 2009, 03:03 AM
I was thinking about some steelies from Diamon Racing Wheels.
http://www.diamondracingwheels.com/challenger.htmlThey're 15'' lol
But they make custom wheels up to 18;; in 4 or 5 lug
http://www.diamondracingwheels.com/drwcustom.htmlI dunno, might just throw on those steelies in the first link since they're cheap until I can get around to a 5-lug swap.
Basically what I want to do first is New brake pads, exhaust, slam it. I don't have much else planned except for maybe boosting the KA or possibly doing an ITB set-up.

I just got around the 4 lug dilemma by getting some 5 lug wheels and going to have them fill and drilled. Once you have caps on, noone would ever know. Also adaptec speedware just intorduced 4x100 to 5x120 adapters as thin as 18mm, they might have some 4x114.3 solutions too? Ive got some 4x114 borbet type As takin up space

Type A's really only look good on VW's IMO.. if I was going the VW route I'd hit you up.
I'm thinking about slamming an AE86 and pullin' some sick drifts brah! haha
Really want some RS Watanabes.. $680 per wheel though I'm too poor.
Stephen
Oct 18 2009, 06:17 AM
nah, i hear yah, theyre definitely euro. as far as DR supposedly once you get past 16 the wheels get really heavy because theyre made a different way

I havent mounted them yet, e30s are 4x100 so id have to drill/ adapt and im not positive i will yet, ive got some ronal LS im probably going to put on. As far as $ for a DD, e30s are actually fairly cheap, especially if you do work yourself. its the stealership that gives em a bad rep
I did do a super crude mock up:

I've been able to find E30's in the $1000 range with good interiors and from what I can see from pictures clean looking engines.
I dunno, it's still up in the air cause I'm poor as hell and gots no monies.

The steelies on the E30 did a little bit,
Cause its like exactly what I wanna do.
But I've liked DR wheels for a while..
I saw them on a Toyota wagon or something and they looked fuckin' ace so I looked them up and found out they're decently priced, strong, and look good and aren't really heavy.
Might go with Alpinas though..

Another question... which E30 should I shoot for?
I'm thinking 325i would be best, and in my budget.
Stephen
Oct 20 2009, 01:24 AM
What do you want out of it?
It basically breaks down in to a few categories. First, theres early model and late model. Early model, like mine and the one with steelies, have high arches which allow for more large wheel cramming without ridiculous forward rake. The downside is they come stock with ugly bumpers, but that can be fixed. The late models have lower arches, the smaller plasic bumpers, and a few other changes here and there.
Then theres the engines, 325i, 325e(early model only except for 88 which was a transition year.. kinda complicated) and the 318i (early and late, but are 2 completely different 1.8l engines the m10 and m42) If youre looking at 318i, go late model. Generally, late models are considered more desirable, especially if youre not going to do crazy fitment and just DD it. Then again, early models are cheaper and make a good cheap DD as well. Although id stick with at least the 325e, which chipped is hypothetically 140hp/190ftlbs roughly. The 325i is more high reving and 170ish hp. Swaps are the way to go if you want to go fast though

Oct 20 2009, 01:41 AM
Want I want pretty much is a DD and a weekend fun car, Planning to do some Auto-Cross and TEAR UP THE TOOJ, and just driving the awesome curvy roads in my area. I'd like to go somewhat fast, and no auto trans. haha
Slamming is still kind of up in the air 'cause if the cars ridiculously low it's not going to be fun to try and do auto-cross when every time I turn a corner or something. it scrapes.
I don't really know a whole lot about BMW's... other than the fact that I like them.
Any good E30 forums I can do some reading up at?
Stephen
Oct 20 2009, 02:04 AM
Id recommend getting a latemodel 325i, more fun with just light mods. 318is are better balanced but less power. early 325is also make good autox beasts, and can be cheaper too. the low end torque makes etas ok at autox, especially on tight tracks, but they simply dont have the power the i engines do.
AS far as slamming, you can get almost as low as i am without extensive mods, short shocks, or any thing like that. And with the coils i have i love the way it handles
Check out r3vlimited.com, my names Stephen over there too

Cool, thanks for the link.
I was thinking of going with stance coil overs, simply because they're not very expensive and get the job done.
Like the stance of your car, looks like it rolled off the showroom that way, real clean.
As far as mods, I'm thinking cone air filter, exhaust, and a chip, a long with the coil overs.
I'm sure I'll add more but that's really all that comes to mind right now.
Thanks for the help, brah.
haha
Stephen
Oct 20 2009, 03:49 AM
no problem
I havent heard of stance coils for an e30..? What i did is got some generic sleeves off ebay that fit like a glove and bought some GC springs used off r3v. That got the job done real cheap, and the eibach springs GC uses are nice, with billy sports. Cosmo has cheap coilovers but the spring sag and id just recommend it against it, and my way ended up costing me like 120$ (except for shocks).. lol
the muffler is always nice for sound but doesnt do much for power. Cone filter actually looses some without some sort of heatshield. Chip is well worth the $ though.
Ivan the Terrible
Oct 20 2009, 03:55 AM
I'm almost positive stance doesn't make coilovers for e30s only 00-05 M3's

I didn't do any research, at all.
I just said the cheapest coil overs that came to mind haha
Chip & exhaust it is then.
I just like to hear it haha
What about Jamex style coil overs?
I've heard they're pretty decent.
Stephen
Oct 20 2009, 04:22 AM
Jamex i believe is just lowering springs for an e30. And not that many people run them. The most common potions are for a stance close to mine H&R race, Ireland engineering stage 3( had those, good stance for an early model) eibach pro kit(dont) but those are all just lowering springs. id still recomend a GC setup, or universal coil setup using the GC/eibach springs.. theyre a few other setups too but they tend to be crappy or really pricey
Goon360
Oct 20 2009, 04:35 AM
I looked at GC, for a complete set-up it would be around $1500 or so.. I think?
I think it would be well worth it though cause I really want to track the car quite a bit, not just Auto cross.

Thats for the Full bolt on coils i think. Convienent and nice stuff though no doubt. But theyre coil conversion is like 400$ and billstiens are i thin 450ish. Konis are more. Thats still a nice legit setup

http://www.ground-control-store.com/produc...php/II=121/CA=8Can be used with stock shocks but the Bilsteins are priced well.
I'll probably end up buying the conversion kit and than after a while getting some Bilsteins or something.
Cheaper that way..
