I contacted the seller about a possible trade for my GTI. He just kept going on and on about how the car runs perfect and that I won't even need to get a smog check. Saying that he would need to see my car before we trade. I'm just like uhhh duh of course you'd have to see it before we trade like wut. He claimed he owned it for 8 years but when I asked about the air ride he said he's had it for 3 years and the last owner put it in... I feel like it's stolen.

Sounds like he's just trying to get rid of his car and you're slightly over thinking it. Ask if he has the title in his name.

I know it's pre-smog, that's why it's funny he said it. It's like he knows nothing about the car, which worried me. I just decided i'm not going to bother with it and continue looking.

He probably said it because a lot of people don't know that. You should never trust what someone selling a car says anyway.

actually i think i know that car. He used to be a parts driver for SBVW. Hit up oscar and ask if its the same car as the old parts driver. Maybe he knows the old parts driver better.
