harry
I like slammed aircooleds. Welcome
Louis
early fenders and bumpers?
dubhavoc
How did you fit those eye lids in there looks good.
stan
cool vw, welcome
spekkie
@ louis this is the europian economy model called a "spaarkever "
it has the upright lights but the oldstyle blade bumpers ( fenders arent correct should have horngrilles ) and are 6 volt original .
@ dubhavoc eyelids are just slip in but these are real oldschool ones are much smaller then the new repro ones wink.gif
i have a real oldschool roofrack too not a shinny new empi repro

Louis
good stuff man, so what are the details? 4" beam, spindles, adjusters, and 2 rear clicks?
spekkie
5 inch beam with cb performance dropped spindles ( twice as expensive as others but much better quality ) adjusters an no shocktowers .
rear has 2 klicks wink.gif
front tyres are 175/55/15"
rear tyres are 195/65/15"
rear wheels are widened to 5.5" ( original are 4.5" )
changes are coming as in new beam ( 4" with shocktowers )
wider wheels for the rear ( 6.5 " and use the 5.5" ones at the front )
other tyres 165/55 front and 185/65 or 195/55 on the rear
wheels will be john deere green too wink.gif
also i'm making another engine with a friend who is a mechanic .
car will be used for a very big roadtrip in 2013 summer so i'm working toward a very low but drivable car .
Trip will be 2600 to 3000 miles on very bad roads blink.gif
Louis
nice! I'll be pickin up a '56 oval soon and am debating on the set up. prolly gonna go 6" beam, no towers, and 3 clicks. Car looks good man, keep us posted!
spekkie
nice hope to see some pics of that oval .
its drives more comfortable low because its a different frontaxle than bug from after 65
Zach
Good stuff dude, I had a '73 standard too.
Louis
king pin>ball joint
dubhavoc
Thanks Spekkie.
On my bug im probably going 2in narrowed beam for now.Ima go 4in later on, Puma adjusters, lower the rear end 1 click or 2 clicks. We'll see.
What motor you going with.

I wonder how that John Deere green would look like.

Sorry for the late reply
But please just go for a 4 inch at once and buy yourself a set of good quality dropped spindles ; for the rear go 2 clicks and notch the springplates wink.gif
if you put a 2 inch beam you will want to go lower in a matter of weeks and will need too modify beam again or search an other one .
drove my beetle daily for 4 months at this rideheight and it goes very well ! ( and you should see the roads and speedbumps over here )

I'm going to build a simple 1600 only riechert carb kit other rockers ( i think thats the english name ? ) and a home modified exhaust .
All parts will be balanced and weighted not aiming for high performace but reliability .
Louis
good plan/advice!
spekkie
picked up a new front beam this monday .
i'm spraying it black now wink.gif
also took the woods slats out of the roofrack and made them to fit good laugh.gif
Louis
nice! Hurry up and install that beam, I want pics! I'm picking up a '56 oval rag-top on sunday so I need inspiration lol
spekkie
lol i'm a litlle bit lazyer then you think louis laugh.gif
Louis
lol its ok
spekkie
Soo the lazy boy from belguim did some work on the beetle again !

the new beam !

on the car

on the car with all new suspension and brake stuff on it

new height and a litlle less tuck . MUCh better imo !
and in between the hard work drinking beer and smokin .... i made a new gearlever
Louis
hell ya man! Lookin good! I did end up picking up that 56 oval rag. Check out the build thread "2 slammed air-cooleds" some fun tricks in there. Shortened pan head, pie cut, 10" narrowed beam.... Post up a pic outside the garage?
spekkie
Still need to do the rear brakes louis wink.gif
outside pics will follow soon....ish
I will check your topic nothing better then heavely modified vw's
Louis
fo sho!
harry
I like this smile.gif
spekkie
Bought myself a early christmass present today

4 lug sprintstars 5.5 wide set of 4

fitted one little bit too chunky tire for me

tight gap !

The wheels stick out 1.5 inches more than the front wheels of the car !
This will be too much to drive it nice and low .
Going to get the front ones narrowed 1 inch and put on the tires that are already on the car .
I think it will be exactly how i wanted it to look .

The new wheels stick out 0.8 more then the rear wheels allready on the car.
I think this will work perfect !
If this doesnt work i will roll the wheelarches with some steel pipe laugh.gif
Also going to us the same tires that are on the car .
all wheels will be sandblasted and a funky color applied
Louis
I like sprints.
spekkie
Coolest affordable 4lug beetle wheel for me !
Wasnt going to pay big bucks just to cut up the fronts laugh.gif
Will be powdercoated a nice and funky green color think it will look superb with a black car .

welcome! the VWs are growing here smile.gif

Exactly what i was thinking.

Good to see another European member on here smile.gif
spekkie
where in europe are u from g535 ?
I come from belguim wink.gif

edit :
Fitted the rear wheels yesterday .
They will never fit with this tires not even if i use the steel pipe to roll the arches !
I will order some 175/65 15 tires for the rear this will just work an gives me another half inch of lowness
spekkie
I'm after a set of 4.5 sprints now . Hope that Leslie still has them so i can pic em up later this week laugh.gif
So i will have two staggered sets . Sell one set and not spend money on narrowing a pair .
Looked up some pictures of slammed bugs on a staggered set of sprints really cool !!
Louis
Nice. I picked these up for my '56. 6" wide rears, and then the faces were cut out of another set of 6" wides and welded into a stock bus wheel (4.5" wide) for the front. And off road center caps for fun lol. Hope they fit! But I am not afraid to cut the hell out of the body at this point lol. 145/65/15 front and probably gonna do 185/60/15 rear.

Germany, son. Cologne area, so Belgium isnt far away at all smile.gif I used to go to Maasmechelen for shopping with the GF quite a lot!
spekkie
Nice wheels louis wink.gif
use 165/45 tires up front they are lower then the 145/65's wink.gif

update on the second set of wheels ! Leslie mailed me back today i told him to hold the wheels for me laugh.gif
Louis
Ya, my debate was between those two. I went with the skinnier because of the 10" narrowed beam but I'm having second thoughts now. I'm keeping my eye out for the 165/45's but I already have the 145/65's......
spekkie
its only 20 mm wider but also 20 mm less sidewall Louis laugh.gif
165 fits on 4.5 perfectly mine are even 175/55 .

picked up the second set of sprints this morning .
Decided how i'm painting them also .
the pieces that are silver original on the wheels will be shiny black .
the pieces that are black original will be john deere green .
Will work nice and is a little bit different
spekkie
hope to find the parts i still need on the beetle winter fest tomorrow so i can rebuild the rear in the evening and get the car on its wheels again !
spekkie
Still not got the parts to rebuild the rear suspension must drive to bbt not found anything decent on the winterfest .
Today picked up some coorect taillights laugh.gif

Will look twice as nice !
