So after an alignment I did a drift event and now the inside of my rim rubs on the wheel well. I feel like the messed up the alignment, because before my camber plates lined up and now they are way off. Any ideas? I'm looking into s14 lca's but I feel like it was fine before the alignment. What caster should I be running on an s13? They set it to OEM and I feel like it should be something else.

I'm running 17x9 +12 with a 225/45/17
ISIS arms, stance with a collar removed in the front. (I went up and it still rubs)
The rear is perfect, and I really dont want to go up but it looks like I might need to.
Ivan the Terrible
Have you ever crashed hard into a curb or bottomed out so hard your ass hole was sore?

All it takes is slight bend on the crossmember to throw everything off.
deolio
only rubbing when the wheels are turned right? probably on that seam at the bottom of the wheel well. just hammer everything flat that doesn't need to be removed.

what do you mean when you say your camber plates won't line up?

225/45 seems like a pretty big tire to me.
Wanabe
@ivan I've only had the car for 8 months. Its been low for about 7 months, and I've hit a lot of stuff with my sub frame, so probably. I'm looking into aftermarket LCA's any suggestions? I can't find s14 ones anywhere.

@max Yeah exactly that seam and only to the right. I bent it flat it was still pretty bad. It took a chunk out of my wheel. The tires are a little big but I couldnt find anyone one to stretch anything more. -2 degrees camber is 0ed out on one plate and max camber on the other.

I took a cutting wheel to my wheel well it was that bad. When I drove it away from the shop I couldnt turn right, because it would stall the car.

I was throwing more smoke from my front wheel wells then my rear tires lol

The more I dig the more I feel that the shop that aligned it did a shitty job. Even though they are a reputable shop "WORKS" I really dont think they want to work on my car because its not an Evo. I know all the service writers so I get hook ups, but I guess its not worth the saved lol.
Ivan the Terrible
Its annoying huh? I was pissed about having shit all crooked.

S14 lcas are way expensive, might as well get the psm flca at the price that they are.
But I'd still check the crossmember to see if its bent, measure from set points and see if its fucked up.
Wanabe
Yeah its getting expensive too. I got fed up with works talking shit about my "too low piece of shit" Ive know them for like 6 years but still. I called Limitless where a certain admin works, and they are trying to find some flca's. I'm sure my cross member is one of the problems. Do you think all the adjustable arms would be able to correct it? The car pulls to the right horribly.
Ivan the Terrible
Eye ball align it, take show string and and wrap it around car then make sure steering wheel is straight and adjust toe. Its what I did when I had a bent ass flca and crossmember.
Wanabe
ok cool ill try that for now once i get my tie rods in
deolio
hmm sounds like works is fucking with you or something. that's nuts. did you get a print out of the alignment?
Wanabe
Yes and no. I'm done with them. It just sucks because I still have a sponsorship credit there. I'm hella cool with the owner, he just never comes in anymore. Fuck it I'll just make the drive to limitless, because they actually want to help me align it and get the car driving. I'm probably going to just start with the tie rods and see how bad it is. then order the flca's if necessary.
krammitthefrog
are there eccentric bolts on the control arm?

if they rotated while drifting during an abrupt maneuver, theres your problem. could also be a bent control arm/tension rod.
Ivan the Terrible
No ecentric bolts on the lca's

I'd just go through all the front and see wassup.
krammitthefrog
no what i mean is the shop may have installed some to correct the alignment before
Wanabe
no eccentric bolts on the flca's. I got it re aligned and went up just a little bit and it doesn't rub except, the small black box on the bottom the the wheel well in front of the driver tire. I'm not sure what it is but I'm gonna do some digging. Any ideas what it is? Can I re locate it?

Edit* its the oem air box. I just took it out, it looks like I should clear now. Thanks guys, now I just need to relocate my harnesses.
Wanabe
Can you relocate the wheel well harness with out taking off the fenders?
Ivan the Terrible
You have to take off the fenders, no way around it.

Tuck that baby up good
Wanabe
So I did the wire tuck and the wires are safe. Every time I go out drifting my alignment gets way worse, because I rub really hard. Should I try and get some smaller tires? I ran more pre load and went up it looks really ugly. should I just try and find some 16x8 +0's for drift only? I don't know how you did it on the fobra's Ivan. Your way more slammed then me. Maybe my wheels are too heavy? The Varrstoens are super heavy.
krammitthefrog
if it gets worse then something isnt right.

does it rub just when your drifting or afterwards?
Ivan the Terrible
i just knew how to hammer hard and cut shit right. id only rub when i drifted and thats with 2 inches of preload and one collar in. something has to be bent on your front end suspenshun for sure. that doesnt sound right at all
krammitthefrog
well if it just rubs when your sliding that just means the suspension is working more than normal driving.

if its rubbing after your sliding i'd be kind of concerned that something is loose.

if something is bent its gonna rub the whole time. something is shifting, like a completely gone tension rod bushing? bad ball joint to the point it moves in the control arm? lack of control arm bushing.

missing hardware?

there really isn't much to the front suspension.

like i said though, need a better description. if its just rubbing while your sliding, pull the wheel off and look for the polished metal on the inner fender. if it rubs on the inside sidewall against frame rail on a smooth part i wouldnt worry. if it hits something where it can stop the wheel i'd be worried about cutting a tire. seth was driving on my old rewinds on his car and hit a dip hard enough and sliced probably 3/4 of the way through the tire. imagine that shit blowing out on the freeway...
shmokey35
It sounds like you're running way to fat of a tire on a 9" rim.

Try running a 215-40 or 205-40. (That's what i run on the same wheel size)

There has to be a shop that will stretch them on. Its not that bad of a stretch at all.

Honestly try running a smaller tire size before replacing anything else. You will save your self a ton of money.
Wanabe
So works had adjusted my caster driver side 10 and passenger side 6. Toe was way off and a bunch of other stuff. I went down to a 215/45/17 and now I'm golden. No rub at all, just hella bump steer. So I'm gonna pick up the drop knuckles. The other thing I was gonna ask about is why when I go beat on the car, my steering wheel positon changes. The car dosen't pull on way or another but the steering wheel changes like 15 degrees.
Ivan the Terrible
Steering colum bushing? Idk do all the rach bushings and colum bushing. Its cheap mod and makes it sweet
Wanabe
I'll have to do all those when I do my knuckles.
