So I'm looking to rebuild an engine (or motor if you want to call it that) to put into a 240z at some point. Anything would work really, I just want something fairly cheap. I'm hoping I can find someone with an s13/s14 that decided to swap to an sr and still has their KA sitting in their garage waiting for a home. Ideally, I'd like something without too many missing pieces, in pretty good condition, that ran before it was taken out, and has stock-sized pistons (so I can bore it out ). I will be rebuilding the entire motor, so it can be in pretty bad shape. If I can find something free or really cheap that would be awesome! But I am willing to fork over some cash, as long as I think the motor is in good condition. I have access to a Pickup, and I live in the north bay (marin). for a running dual cam swap you're looking at around $300, single cam paperweights for a little less.

I recommend going to your local pick a part and choose any motor you want for $189.99

L28 Turbo out of a 280zx?

I wish. It's an N/A L28, but I'm goin triple carbs on it. I may build up an L28 turbo or something else later on, or perhaps a higher performance L28, we'll see. But I'll just keep it N/A for now. It's a very clean engine, needed no machining or anything, I acctually didn't even have to take off the pistons or crank or bearings since they all looked like new, so I ended up spending 80 bucks for a gasket kit and that was really all I needed.

L28T's aren't that much money from what I've seen. You can find running ones for a fairly affordable price, and iirc power is comparable to an RB20, which in a car like a Z = Awesome.

Meh I've never had a carbed or N/A car before, so I'd like to play around with that for a bit. Down the road I will probably build a nice L28et. They're acctually a very similar engine, Nissan designed the RB off of the L28, and when you add a snail, the L28 can definitley get some good power. But yes, you're right, it's not that expensive. I'm focusing my attention on suspension, chassis, brakes, and interior for now, I'll upgrade the tranny, engine, driveshaft, diff, and do a cv axle swap later on, but for now I'm keeping most of the drivetrain stock, I'm just rebuilding it. I will mate a 280z 5 speed to my L28 for now though.
