And the hate just keeps hating

1 of the pictures they have up is an enkei, not a rota.

although i hate cheap fake wheels like that, any wheel can break.
chris86
if a work wheel or an enkei breaks its usually after a fair smash iv known rotas to blow chucnks out the back of them on mild potholes over here.
and at least your broke work or enkei isnt a wanky copy

blah who cares. I'll rock rota's any day. affordable, decent sized, and the replicas are slowly getting better.

a wheel is a wheel. i've had my sportmax 002's since they were first released and never had them break on me. a couple fake rivets have fallen off but no breaks. not even after i got in a serious car accident and was impacted pretty much right on/next to the wheel.
Rus
so the point of this thread is that if you smash a cheep wheel into a curb it will break?
Ivan the Terrible
lol i crashed into a curb with my xxr's and it still holds air to this day rofl

chris86
point of the thread is i thought it was amusing. and im sory but if a wheel smashes its life away on a small pothole the quality is pretty shite.
fake wheels do not give man points.
AngelsAndBombs
Rota's are coming up big time. No lies.

i couldnt agree with you more.

but any wheel made of aluminum tends to crack more than bend if fatigued enough. so any wheel is susceptible to making a huge mess and breaking into 20 pieces. from these pictures we have no idea what caused the breaks, so its tough to judge.

i wouldnt say rotas are coming up. they are still what is wrong with the car scene today, still junk.
chris86
Towards 70mph on a twisty backroad, slight issue with a big puddle and gravel in my old eg resulted in hitting the bottom of a stone wall, the stone tore the side out the wheel, no cracks any were else.
Ill stick to not buying shit wheels. As above knock offs are killing the car scene be it wheels, parts etc. Would you be proud of buying fake nike's?

excuse the shit phone pic.

get learned
krammitthefrog
haha i get what you mean. but just look at that team dynamics i posted! every single spoke ripped off. what about the stock 350z wheel too? shit happens

like i said, i dont like knock offs at all, but not for that reason. more for the reason that i know they are knockoffs, and dont support any good company or economy.

i have the same philosophy for alot of stuff now. spend a little more now and help those companies grow that deserve the business. this is the same reason hks pulled out of the us market. they werent selling anything here anymore, its all cheap shit. all the tools that are sold at hardware stores now are cheap. my grandma's lawnmower that we got when she died lasted 25 years because it was GOOD. now the one we have probably wont last 10 years because its cheap too.

people dont want to save money and spend it on worthwhile stuff anymore. its all about whats cool now and get rid of it later. you wouldnt believe how many designer clothes from the last fad are still in thrift stores literally brand new. its sick how much shit we go through.

as much as thats true i could care less about man points or fake wheels. just as long as they're pushing their car be it road racing, time attack, drift, etc. put those wheels to work and its all good.

not much of man if you buy legit wheels on a car you're building to "park hard". but then if you're another dude building a car to tear up at the track and you're rocking rota's, that takes away "man points"? lol

go fast wheels do no good parked. and stuff like my rewinds were knockoffs, but they are jwl approved, meaning i trust them as much as any other jwl wheel.
i'd go by that approval rating before i go by any brand for safety's sake.
chris86
but hard parked legit wheels always look better, same as 100mph rear entry drift with 18x12 ssr's on the rear smoking themselves to death look better than any rota/ knock off wheel ever will.
My opinion on knock off parts will never change, if you cant offord the real deal, save real hard or look for bargans.

WTF are you talking about? At anything more than a slow roll you can't even tell what the wheel is. So don't say legit LOOKS better than fake at 100mph. Legit wheels hold up better than the fakies, so using them on the track is a good idea because a dirt drop could smash a fake wheel to bits and not even damage a real wheel. For hard parking I could give two shits it's just like women with fake or real purses. That shits just for braggin rights. Most people don't buy BRAND NEW legit wheels anyways so they can't even be elitist about it. I just don't know why there is such an uproar about this shit. If anything it is putting demand on the bigger name companies not to charge as much for their product so they can compete. Instead of just giving up(HKS). I watched a tidbit on magnaflow, they make everything from start to finish of their exhaust systems in the US. And they still are competitive with their competition that makes shut overseas. They just found ways to make their company more efficient so they could pass the savings onto the customer.

Wheels are wheels. Buy em for what you want, but don't hate on some other dude for using his money the way he wants.

sounds like you should learn to not crash in a puddle instead of bitch about your broke dunk ass wheels because youre a broke dunk ass

x2, Agree 100% wink.gif
Not all reps are bad, they are just "reps" and some people frown upon any thing that is a copy of an original. Honestly, I could care less (quality and looks are more important to me than branding). I couldn't afford the $4000 HRE variant of my wheels, nor did I want to spend that much on wheels of all things.

I bought VMR wheels because they meet or exceeded the JWL/VIA requirements and are produced at an ISO-9001:2000 approved facility. Sure they are Cast and not Forged like the HRE variant but even a majority of BSS wheels are Cast molded.

I purchased my v710'S for $799 before tax for all four wheels and they have withstood a ton of abuse and many vicious potholes. In a couple of years when I have a better job and a higher paying income I might make the switch to some TE-37's, for the time being my v710's make me happy every time I look at them.

are you serious? hks didnt just "give up". they are a japan based company that made an effort to make a name here in the us and they did. then the whole fad of only buying cheap shit and knocking off others designs came up. companies like hks made the designs for that knockoff garbage. you forget that 90% of america has a hard on for magnaflow/flowmaster whatever (i have no problems with these companies, and i agree magnaflow has an awesome manufacturing process), while less than 5% of the people probably even have 1 hks part on their car. if our cable providers ever actually showed the process that goes into making parts for some of the japanese companies overseas, it would be right on par with that magnaflow video.

and tons of guys rock super baller wheels while sliding, and are ok with dumping $500 into that individual wheel when they dirt drop. some people like proper wheels for grip driving and autox etc, but i see no problem with having shitty drift spares as long as your driving the car. just dont call them volks when they arent anything close. its not a matter of having the baller shit, because being able to spend money doesnt mean shit. if your some broke kid, (which most are, otherwise they would buy something other than a piece of shit corolla or 240), then you cant preach about "proper" anything. if you want proper then get a proper car to begin with. i could rant all day about how people are too cheap to buy an ariel atom over a 20 year old shitbox, but who gives a fuck.

its the same fucking reason dirt track guys rock steelies. it is cheap and they are easy to replace if you fuck one up. long as you dnt brag about how your wheels that are a dime a dozen are baller as shit. they arent, but hey, they serve the purpose of fulfilling your mission to not give a fuck and have fun beating your car into the ground.

QFT.

My manager has a set of nice RS's on his E36 that he picked up for $800, then got the rears widened to 10", polished the lips and bolts himself.
Now guess what, hes selling them for $2,200.

But does he brag about them? No, I walays talk to him about having baller wheels and hes just like "Dude I didnt pay shit for those. They arent that big a deal".

And I can respect that.

my whole outlook has changed

know why?
The new rota Kyusha thing is JIL certified.
that means they are actually teseted, quality controlled by the japanese gov.

AS long as the wheel carries some kind of certification, and the size is NOT offered by the OG mfg, ill buy it.
etikoner
JLW stands for Japan Light weight wheel.

Sometimes I have doubts whether certain companies actually test their shit, or if they just cast them with that in the molds for the fuck of it.
etikoner
ouch
